O Paintball é um jogo onde duas ou mais equipes competem entre si usando marcadores que soltam tinta ao atingir o adversário. Na forma mais popular do jogo, o objetivo é apanhar a bandeira do outro grupo e quanto mais adversários forem eliminados, mais fácil fica de completar o objetivo*.

A segurança é o item mais visado no esporte, pois além dos participantes dos jogos usarem uma máscara (uso obrigatório) existe também o Barrel Plug, uma espécie de rolha que se põe na extremidade do cano do marcador enquanto o jogo não se inicia.

Quando você é atingido, a sensação é semelhante à de um beliscão. Quanto mais perto o tiro maior é a dor. Nas partes mais sensíveis do corpo, como pescoço, partes posteriores do braço e virilha, o impacto é mais intenso, podendo causar hematomas. Ao final das partidas é muito comum que surjam hematomas. Neste caso pomadas anti-inflamatórias diminuem a dor e o hematoma**.

Para prevenir estes possíveis hematomas, o ideal é que o jogador utilize roupa reforçada, luvas, botas e equipamentos de proteção específicos para a prática deste esporte. Para movimentos mais ousados como Slides e Superman (Peixinho), as cotoveleiras, joelheiras e os shorts de proteção são bastante importantes para evitar lesões.
